LHS Bats Come Out Swinging
Lamar hosted Mansfield Summit on Friday, April 16, trying to avenge a dismal performance in their first meeting.
Lamar scratched a run in the 1st and took an 8 to 1 lead after 2-innings on a grand slam by Danny Dondero. The Vikings got 4-plus solid innings out of Senior Michael Seaman and extended their lead to 13-3. Summit brought the score to 13-6 in the 5th and took the lead with a 9 run inning in the 6th at 15 to 13.
Clint Wells lead off the bottom of the 6th with a single and advanced to second on a single by Dondero. Clay Hadley hit the left field fence for a stand up double (second of the night) scoring Wells. Peyton Weaver sacrificed, scoring Dondero and moving Hadley to 3rd. Sophomore Kaden Arnsberg delivered the eventual game winning hit (three hits on the night) scoring Hadley from 3rd and put the Vikings up 16-15 at the end of six.
Senior left-hander Nick Ronalder was called on to close out the game -- and he delivered, picking up his first save of the year. Nick threw less than 10 pitches and produced 3 fly balls to Clint Wells in centerfield to hand the Vikings their 3rd district win of the year and their second straight win. Next up the Vikes take on the Volunteers at Bowie on Tuesday the 20th.
Notables for the game:
Danny Dondero – Grand Slam Home Run
Tyler Wilson, Clay Hadley – Double(s)
Kaden Arnsberg – Game Winning RBI |

LHS Completes Sam Houston Sweep
Tuesday, April 13th's game against Sam Houston was entered into with a little apprehension.
With 3 of Lamar’s pitchers out due to their long outings at Friday’s 14-inning game, the Vikings relied on the arm of left-hander Nick Ronalder. Nick pitched 5 2/3 strong innings and turned it over to Peyton Weaver to close out the last 4 outs delivering the Vikings’ second district win.
Offensively the Vikings had a team effort in putting up 8 runs and had another home run from Danny Dondero.
Notables for the game:
Danny Dondero – Home Run
Tyler Wilson – Triple |
