VIKINGS SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE IN COPPELL
Cowboy Offense. Pitching Eliminates A Gritty Lamar to Sweep Area Playoff Series
The Lamar Vikings saw their season come to a close as the Coppell Cowboys eliminated the Vikings from the Texas UIL Playoffs at Cowboy Field in Coppell on Friday night. The final score of 13-5 was not indicative of the competitiveness of the game. A gritty Lamar squad posted two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Taylor Jockers and Ben Walker provided the hits and Nick Lee and Kyle Arnsberg combined to get the offense started early. The Cowboys struck back with two runs in the 3rd to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the 4th, Kyle Arnsberg doubled to right and Chris Arocha followed with a two run homer to left, it was Arocha’s second homer of the series, and put Lamar back on top at 4-2. The Cowboys came right back in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead 7-4. In the 6th, trailing 8-5, the Vikings loaded the bases with only one out, but Coppell pitching once again snuffed out the rally.
The Lamar Vikings finished their season with several notable achievements. A Texas UIL Bi-District Championship that included the first playoff game won in 7 years and the first Lamar squad to advance in the playoffs in 10 years. The Viking team batting average of .364 was tops in 5A baseball in the DFW Metroplex and several Lamar players were area leaders in Batting Average, RBI’s, and Runs scored as well.
Lamar ends the season with 18 wins, 12 losses and a tie.
